Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
It’s the end of
our second five-day week in a row. We now find ourselves gearing up for the
first of two consecutive short weeks. Next week marks the arrival of our
mid-semester break but before it arrives, we have our fun-filled fancy dress
day on Thursday, October 29th.
What we learned This
week
Math: Topic 4 – Division
Literacy: Interpretive Essays, Defending Big Ideas/We read a
short story called My Side of the Mountain. We also began reading our first
novel, titled The Tiger Rising.
English: Nouns.
Science: Unit A The Life Processes – Ch. 2 Plant Systems and
Chapter Test.
Social Studies: Ch. 2 The Nation Divides – The Events Leading
Up To The US Civil War.
What we will learn Next
week

Very
Important: Please speak to your child about their Social Studies project about
Resisting Slavery. It is due on Tuesday, October 27th.

the Class Dojo post below to find out where you stand on the list. Well done
especially to those who are at the top of the list for the first time this

Reminders
1.
Please be sure to sign your child’s homework book
every day to acknowledge that you have
checked to make sure that they have finished the homework. Understandably,
there will be days where you will not be able to sign, but please do your best
to check and sign it daily.
2.
Now that our Mid-Semester Break is upon us, please
look out for messages pertaining to our Thanksgiving celebrations next month.
Time
certainly does fly in Grade 5, so the first of our two winter breaks will be
upon us before we know it.
